AG 2002: Desert Delights
Have you registered yet for our Annual Gathering? Do it today. Over 375 people already have. I know what you’re thinking: “oh, I have plenty of time”. But we all know how quickly time flies these days and before you know it, you’ll be rapped up in the holidays and busy busy busy. And then it will be January and the price will have gone up $10. Register today for the still-bargain rate of $55 and you’re set.
And what will you get for your money? Among the latest plans discussed by the committee are
A hospitality that promises to offer tasty food whenever you feel like eating. Rather than have lunches or dinners at set hours prompting a feeding frenzy and long lines, we’ll be running sessions all day without a break and food all day without a break to insure an even distribution of attendees and less crowds all around.
We are pleased to announce that there will, once again, be a Kids Trek at the AG for attendees aged 4-12. Martha Feld, who has coordinated a Kids Trek program for the past several AGs – to rave reviews – has agreed to run one for us.
Tours are still being planned, but among the outings we hope to be offering are an early-morning horseback ride into the desert surrounding the Princess and a tour to the Frank Lloyd Wright building nearby, in addition to a tour to the Canyon and Sedona.
A well-stocked Games Rooms and on-going tournaments throughout the Gathering.
A separate Teens Room and Teens Program Track for our visitors aged 13 to 19.
Two dances: one featuring a DJ and costume contest and one featuring a live band and formal dress (dust off those tuxes and long dresses. It’s the traditional AG Prom Night!)
The AG Committee is working hard, but we can still use your help. Here’s how you can contribute:
Register for the AG and please check the box that says “I’ll volunteer”.
If you have a few hours to spare before the AG, let us know, so that when small jobs come up that need a lot of people, we can call you.
We’ll be needing at home bakers starting in January. Would you like to organize some Saturday afternoon baking parties? We’ll supply easy recipes if necessary and reimburse you for your expenses.
Do you know of a DJ or band you could recommend?
As always, if you’re new to Greater Phoenix Mensa and want to know what an AG is all about and how you can get involved, don’t hesitate to call or e-mail. I can be reached for questions, comments and offers to help at 602-243-0480 or e-mailed at carolrants@home.com. Questions about the AG? Check out our ever-growing Web Site at http://ag.us.mensa.org/
