Regional Ramblings

by Bob Cox

Well, here it is! My last RVC Column. On July 5,  I hand over the reins to Barbara Lytle of San Diego.

I have enjoyed meeting and working with so many of you. I would like to offer my thanks to all those who have given their time and energy to make Mensa an organization we can all be proud of.

The results of the National election are in. The winners in the contested Executive positions are: Chairman - Jean Becker, Second Vice Chairman - Dan Burg, Secretary - Judy Vasiliauskas. You did not see my name there?  No, I lost by a mere 42 votes. I do thank those of you who voted for me. I am sure the AMC will get along without me being there. I guess now I will just sit around and do nothing. By the way, Judy V is from our region, she now lives in Las Vegas.

While the whole AG is a wonderful experience, the event many of us look forward to most is the Awards Luncheon. We in Region 9 are expecting to receive a number of awards. The most awards will come from the Publications Recognition Program (Newsletters and Web Sights). We should even get an Owl. We also hope to pick up awards for Group of the Year, Culture Quest, Community Activities Program and perhaps some others. Best of luck (if luck has anything to do with it) to the Editors, Local Groups and individuals who have been nominated or participated.

The RG of the month is the Orange County Mensa Regional Gathering, The Roaring 2000’s is July 27-29. Registration is $55.00 until July 6 and $60.00 after that. A check made payable to OC Mensa-RG should be sent to Deb Stone, 24312 Spartan St. Mission Viejo CA 92691-3921 Don’t forget Son of Asilomar over Labor Weekend. . Look for ads in this newsletter or the Mensa Bulletin.

If you have missed the AG in Dallas, be sure not to miss the next one in Phoenix (I do not have to remind those who were in Dallas). Both registrations and hotel (resort) reservations are now being accepted.

I will not be getting to as many Regional Gatherings as I have been, but of course I will be at the AG. I hope to see you there. This is not good bye, just till we meet again.
