The big news this month is that Bob Beatty has resigned as Chairman of American Mensa for health reasons and on doctor’s orders.
This
has meant some changes to the AMC. Bob is now Past Chairman, Jean Becker
is Chairman and Russ Bakke is First Vice Chairman. Darlene Criss has been
appointed Second Vice Chairman.
There will also be some candidate changes for the election next month.
Jean and Russ will now run for
their new positions. Dan Burg will run against me for Second Vice Chairman
and Marie Mayer will run for
Secretary. This will be an interesting and important election with some
highly contested races.
For you to be able to vote (and I hope you will) you need to have
your membership paid up. Remember that you can now renew by calling the
National Office and paying by credit card. You can even pay on the AML
Web site. You also need to be paid up to be on a CultureQuest ® team.
It is time to get your teams together, entry deadline is April 2. CultureQuest
® is a lot of fun and a way to possibly win some money for your scholarship
program.
Membership figures are growing nicely on the National level. At the
end of January we were still 805 members short of our last year end figures.
We should make them up in February which leaves us all of March for growth.
Renewals are coming in much faster than last year so this should mean
that we will have a much higher membership this April (our low figure)
than last year.
The San Diego Regional Gathering at beautiful Lake San Marcos is not
until May 25-28 but it is time to
register. The best rooms sell out quickly and you must register this month
to be in the golf tournament.
Registration is $64, Meal Package $50 and Golf Fees $60. Send registration
and a check made out to SD

It is also time to register for the Annual Gathering in Dallas. Visit
the Web site at www.ag.us.mensa.org and you can use the Net for
the actual registration. You need to call the Hotel Intercontinental in
Dallas for a room. The rate is $103 for one to four people. I understand
that the hotel is filling fast, reserve today.
