From the Editor

I was delighted to see in our Calendar this month an entry from Northern Arizona!!

This is near and dear to my heart because in my 25 years of Mensa membership I have been, at times, in the “outback” so to speak.  It is a very real problem and especially here in the West.  Prior to moving to Phoenix, my wife and I lived in Brawley California.  That is about 100 miles east of San Diego.  So my only contact with Mensa was to go to an RG or to an occasional function when we happened to be in San Diego.  I felt really cut off from Mensa.   Similarly, there are quite a few Mensans in Sedona and Flagstaff. There are an abundance of people who qualify for Mensa in that area and we have a real opportunity to better serve those outside the Phoenix area.

A couple of ideas occur to me.  The first one is to devote one page (at least) in the MAAM every month to  Northern Arizona Mensa.  I need one of you to volunteer to be the Associate Editor for Northern Arizona.  To send me articles of particular interest to Northern Arizona.  Calendar entries for your activities.  Pictures and articles about your get togethers.   I can scan in your pictures, for example, so all you need is any old camera.

Another thing we might think about is to videotape our forums.  We have some very excellent speakers and this could be an opportunity for our forums to get the wider audience that they deserve.  Perhaps some of you would like to get together and listen to our forum speakers.    So let me hear your feedback and I will work with you and help you any way I can.

The other thing I wanted to comment on is that the MAAM and quite a bit of other information of interest to Mensans is on line.  We have a good strong capability in this area.  Robert,  Alan and others have done a good job for us in that arena.  Check out the our new web page and let Alan or Robert know what you think of it.
