GPM Election — Good News and Bad News |
The good news about Greater Phoenix Mensa’s recent election is that several of the Executive Committee members are new to GPM leadership positions. It is healthy sign to see talented new people getting involved in GPM leadership positions. These young people will bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm to the A Executive Committee. The bad news is that out of 733 GPM members only six people choose to run. Virtually every candidate this year ran unopposed. This is a rather sad state of affairs. One of our main challenges in the coming year will be to groom more future GPM leaders. The bottom line though, is that GPM will have a strong Executive Committee to lead GPM for the coming year. We have a healthy mix of new people with fresh ideas and enthusiasm as well as the experience and wisdom of the more senior returning members. Welcome aboard Eileen, Steve, Larry, and Travis. Welcome back Carol, Mel, and Glenn. The coming year should be quite a ride!
At some of the GPM parties in the past, a few of our members have discreetly swum in private backyard pools and soaked in private hot tubs sans clothing. While this behavior does not happen all the time, and is not exactly encouraged by GPM; it has been condoned under certain circumstances. A visitor to our last Ex-Com meeting expressed some concern over the rights of people who prefer not to skinny-dip (or swim or soak with those who do) to participate in these fun backyard activities. After some discussion at the Ex-Com, it was decided that the following rules would ensure that all party could have as much backyard fun as possible.
It is the Host or Hostess decesion whether “swimsuits mandatory” or “clothing optional” rules apply to users of their private backyard pools and hot tubs. If the “clothing optional” rules apply, then this must be clearly stated in the party write-up published in the MAAM. If no mention is made of the “clothing optional” rule in the party write-up in the MAAM, then the “swimsuits mandatory” rule will apply by default.
The Host or Hostess of a party does not have the option of changing the swim and hot tub attire rule in the middle of the party. He / She must abide by what was published in the MAAM. Also no party guests should attempt to pressure the Host / Hostess to change the attire rules from “swimsuits mandatory” to “clothing optional” during the party.
GPM now has 733 members. 29 people attended the June Forum.
