Salon: Party Time in Chandler |
As the New Year begins, I would like to personally thank Leigh Butler for hosting our first party of the New Year, the January 1 Soiree. She has been the Salon chair for the past several years. Thank you, Leigh, for your grace, smiles and charm and for always finding a host/hostess for the Soiree and Salon each month. Our local chapter has decided to change the party schedule. We've previously held both a Soiree and Salon each month, but attendance hasn't been high.
Mel, our LocSec, has suggested we schedule a Salon each month to be held as an Official GPM Event. We will be encouraging new members, and guests who would like to become members, to join in the fun with FREE admission for their initial Salon. We are asking members to invite persons they know who would qualify for Mensa to participate and meet us. What better place than at a relaxing get-together at a Salon to become a participating member of Mensa? All of you members who have never attended a GPM Salon, we are challenging you to come to our first Salon of the new Millennium, and enjoy it -- free. You will not be asked to give to the "owl" (which is still $2 for members and $3 for non-members to defray costs of soft drinks, plates, utensils, etc.) As usual, the official time will be 7:30 PM with attendees bringing something for the participatory buffet/beverage. We need volunteers to host the Salons, so please send an email or call me at home (602-867-8778), and leave a message.
This month's Salon You are invited to a Salon in Chandler, Saturday, February 19th at the home of John Nangle at 1056 W. Elgin. As a conversation-starter, you are encouraged to bring a magazine that is old, uncommon or related to your hobby or special interest. Let's see how many different magazines we can amass in one location. The nearest major cross streets are Alma School and Frye (1/2 mile south of Chandler Blvd.). From Frye, go south on Alma School and take the first right onto Camino. Go right at the stop sign onto Karen then left onto Elgin. 1056 W. Elgin is on your right at the next corner (Chippewa). This is an adults-only event. New members encouraged (if this is your first salon, you get in FREE!!), participatory buffet/beverage, smoking outside, wheelchair access, no pets on premises, owl $2 for members and $3 for non-members.
