Regional Rambling

December? How can this be? What happened to     Y2K?     I thought it would be a whole year.

There will be two new members on the AMC when we meet on December 2. We sorted out the problem with the new region (the AMC does work between meetings) so as of November 1 we have ten regions. The new region to be known as Region 10, the Florida Region (I thought it should be called the Mosquito Region) will consist of all the Florida groups. The remaining Region 5 groups plus a couple of added groups will be the new Region 5. As you may know, I have been RVC of Region 8 and Region 9. I assure you, I am not moving to Florida to become RVC 10. Karen Lary will be RVC 10 for the remainder of this term.

Region 2 will also be getting a new RVC (to be appointed at the meeting). Steve Slepner, the current RVC and co-chair with his wife Leslie, of this year’s AG, is resigning as of Decenber1, for health reasons.

The Regional Gathering of the month is the Sin City RG in Las Vegas, December15-17. Registration is $60:00 till 12/1, then $65.00. Registrar: Ruth Gorman, 3642 Boulder Hwy #26, Las Vegas NV 89121. The hotel rooms are $25:00 plus tax, single or double at the Las Vegas Club (800) 634-6532. Brunch is $12.50.

You also need to register by December 15 to get the $55.00 rate for the Phoenix RG  Phlights of Phancy  Phoenix Phiesta XXII  January 12-15. The registrar is Carolyn Robinson, 2512 N 22nd Dr. Phoenix AZ 85009-1959.

As I mentioned last month Inland Empire Mensa was approved to host the AMC meeting next September in conjunction with their Regional Gathering. They are offering a special rate for those who register by December 31, of $75.00. Registration includes five meals (three of them sit down hotel meals). While you are at it, it is also time to register for the Leadership Development Workshop that will be held in Long Beach, February 23-25. Registration is free but you need to register with Julia Meyer, 4547 Maybank Ave. Lakewood CA 90712. This event is open to all members who have an interest in making their local group function more effectively. I hope you will consider attending.
