Regional Ramblings: AG 2000 |
I have just returned from the Annual Gathering in
Philadelphia. I saw a few of you there; the rest of
you missed a great AG. There were over 1,400 there and
the program and hospitality were excellent. The AG,
however, ended on a very sad note. On Sunday morning
David Mann died. I served with David on the AMC many
years ago and he was a well known and much loved
Mensan, I am sure many of you knew him.
A MERF Scholarship Fund has been set up to honor
David. To contribute, please send checks to the
National Office, made out to MERF, and marked for the
David Mann Memorial Scholarship. Over $1,700.00 was
raised at the Sunday Brunch at the AG.
Some of our Region 9 Local Groups were honored at the
Awards Luncheon. San Diego Mensa was named Group of
the Year- Class 2 and Borderline Mensa again Group of
the Year- Class 5.
The Phoenix 5 (from Greater Phoenix Mensa) tied for
second place in Culture Quest ® and Glaamarama (from
Greater Los Angeles Area Mensa) was placed 11th. A
team from Greater Phoenix Mensa named the Brainy Boys
was the winner in Culture Quest The Next Generation ®.
Borderline Mensa received two special awards, one for
Membership Retention and one for Membership Growth.
Region 9 again had the highest percentage of its
newsletters entered for awards, several were
successful. L.A. Mentary (GLAAM) ? Mary Kimball Editor
received three awards: Reporting, Member Recognition
and the overall award for Service. The Oracle (Orange
County Mensa) ? Linda Kapiloff Editor, received two,
one for Fiction and a Special Mention for Credits to
Contributors. Doug Miller from Borderline Mensa
received an Individual Achievement Award for Humor for
his monthly column Journals of an Insane Genius. The
Tucson Mensa Web Page ? Scott Benjamin Web Master won
the award for Best Use of Links.
Congratulations to all the winners and a big thanks for
all that you do to make your group and Mensa in
general, a great place to be.
