Why the "In" Crowd Rules |
Year after year, candidates for the GPM executive committee run unopposed, because no one stands up to oppose them. Year after year, GPM chairs struggle to fill the vacancies on their committees. Year after year, the complaints continue: "Greater Phoenix Mensa is cliquish and elitist … it's always the same people running things."
News flash - it's not cliquish. The same people keep running things because you never showed up to do your share. Trust me on this one: most of them would be real happy to take a break and hand off to you - for one thing, they'd no longer have to listen to the endless complaints from those members who expect everything and contribute nothing. Do I sound a tad peeved? Quelle surprise.
You see, GPM RG XXI, "Phuture Schlock", took form and was presented in almost the total absence of member volunteers. Lacking RG volunteers, there were no committees. Only chairs. Most of whom, already short-handed and grossly overworked, perforce doubled up on functions.
They worked their hearts and brains out to make this RG possible. None of them will willingly do it again. Burned out. It's your loss. Yet, just ten or 15 more people would have made the whole enterprise easy, fun, and sociable - and taken far less time from everyone's schedule. You want to think about it.
Elections will be here again soon.
