Just what are MEMS? And why should you care?

Nanorobots are only half the story of this "fantastic voyage" field. Micro-Electro-Mechanical devices are the brave new frontier of medicine, electronics, space exploration – in fact, these exciting new devices touch almost every part of new technology. Little machines that specialize in doing one part of an operation, then join with other little machines to create a whole system, these gadgets will be an indispensable part of the 21st century, from medical diagnosis to self-replication.

Join us at the Forum in October to learn about MEMS and their applications. We’ll have an exciting speaker who will fill us in on this astounding new field (and maybe bring samples … but how could we tell?). This will be a great presentation for the non-scientist as well as the techie, so don’t miss it.

If you haven’t attended this summer’s Forums, you’ve missed a couple of good ones: a juvenile probation officer offered his slant on the current legal system, gangs in Phoenix, and some hard questions about how we could help (and gave us a concrete way to get involved through community review boards). We also took an insider look at South Africa today: what’s happening in that beautiful, once-First-World country, and its chances for recovery from 30 years of internal strife through its Reconciliation strategy. You may see both of these speakers at the RG!

Come join us at The Pyle Adult Center in Tempe. It’s located to the west of Rural Road on Southern, on the south side, just west of the Tempe Library. Show up at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 13, for an exciting presentation. Then join the group for a debriefing at Uptown Brewery (about a mile east on Southern Avenue) afterward.

Got a good speaker? Can you talk to us on your area of expertise? Call Stevie at 602-954-6022 and offer to speak at a Forum.
