This issue of the MAAM contains two articles on how Mensans are involved in the community. The Academic Decathlon program was written up in Time Magazine. It is controversial, but a "slice of real life" is presented in this issue by Steve Broe. We also have the article, Community Chair by Lynne Powers on how some Mensans are helping others. I hope to run more articles of this type in the future. Mensa is not just a social organization, but one of dynamic involved people reaching out. Mensans are very neat and special people.
This is my second time around to be a Mensa newsletter editor. A few years ago, I was the editor of the Menzia, the New Mexico Mensa Newsletter. I was not only the Editor, but also the Calendar Editor and the Circulation Manager. The Fold and Staple was also held at my house. NM Mensa is about a fourth the size of GPM so it was manageable to do all four jobs. In GPM, it would be a fast way to burnout. So I wanted to extend my heartfelt thanks to some people who frequently are not always appreciated for all the work they do.
We have a wonderful Calendar Editor, Joni Fetz who always gets her inputs to me on time and in good form. I do want to add quickly that occasionally some activity will have to be canceled at the last minute. Or that the location of something is moved right at the last minute and you will have to deal with me directly. Normally, all calendar items should be submitted to Joni and on time.
We also have a fantastic Circulation Manager Lauri Vickers. The Circulation Manager is responsible for seeing that the MAAM is properly addressed and presented to the Post Office in the proper form. Every one of those address labels is her responsibility. Those little stickies you may sometimes see on your MAAM are to assist the Post Office to efficiently sort and process the newsletter. The cost of mailing the MAAM economically depends on following certain rules to the letter. Properly affixing the labels to the newsletter and properly bundling them is therefore essential. Lauri also tells our printer each month how many copies to print.
Finally my thanks to the folks who do the FSM and to Stevie Crowley for providing her house. Oh yeah, the two kitties help too. FSM is a fun event that I encourage all of you to plan on taking in from time to time.
