Calendar Goddess Quits!

by Joni Fetz

As I start planning my wedding, I am finding that I don’t have lots of time for doing other thing. It is interesting to try putting things together, especially since it has been a long time since I have even helped with a wedding. The wedding is planned for August 5, so I do have enough time. It’s getting started that is hard. My fiancé & I both have lots of friends worldwide. We may end up with a large wedding, if everyone can come.

April Fool!! I am not really quitting.

I’m just not sure how many of the Mensa events I’ll get to in the next few months. My fiancé works evenings, Sunday - Thursday, so the only days I get to see him are Friday & Saturday. We have tons of things we want to do and not enough time to do even a part of them on the weekends. I hope all of you renewed your membership before the end of March. I realized the other day that I had never sent my renewal in. I did manage to renew before my membership lapsed.

Please Note: Your calendar announcements need to be to me by 8 p.m. on the 13th of the month. That way, I have enough time to get the calendar finished and sent to the editor. Announcements received after 8 p.m. will not be added to my copy of the calendar.

New Member Reception. Check this out for a great way to meet the new members and see some old friends as well.

Shoestring Gourmet: Get a group of people who like to eat well, but not spend a lot of money and you have the makings of Shoestring Gourmet. Each month a different theme will be selected for the dinner. Recipes will be provided if you don’t have one that fits the category. You cook it up, you bring it over and you join your Mensa friends in gobbling it up. That along with great conversation. Groups are usually small, so this could be a great way for new members to get acquainted with others, without becoming overwhelmed.

Games Night: another great way to get involved without getting overwhelmed. A variety of games are provided for you to enjoy or you can bring one of your own. Conversation can easily center around the game, so you don’t have to worry about getting tongue-tied or trying to think up something to say. Don’t like playing games? This evening is so casual, you can just come and sit and watch others play games or sit and chat with the others who don’t feel like playing games either.

Fold, Staple & Mutilate: a great way to relieve stress as you take it out on the MAAM, which can’t talk back. A small group of regulars and newcomers gathers at Stevie’s house once a month to put together the newsletter. Get acquainted with your fellow Mensans. Join in on one of the deep (or not so deep) discussions that always seem to come up. Come join the fun. Be warned, Stevie has 3 cats who also join in the fun.

The necessary stuff: All MAAM submissions for the May 2000, issue must be received by 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 13. Send Calendar entries to Joni Fetz by one of the following means:
