Regional Ramblings |
This month’s RG in Inland Empire has had to be cancelled. The main reason for cancellation was a lack of registrations. I know we all tend to put these things off until the last moment, but it helps the organizers if you will register early.
We have several other Regional Gatherings in the pipeline. Greater Phoenix Mensa has Phuture Schlock (my spell checker won’t like that) January 14-17. Greater Los Angeles Mensa has their Walk Of Fame February 18-21 and San Diego Mensa has Three Days Before The Mast May 26-29. Register early for these great RGs.
You also need to register for the Leadership Development Workshop in Riverside February 25-27. You do not even have to wait until you save up the money for this one, there is no charge for registration or meals but we do need to know that you will be coming. Send a LSASE to E. Bunny Warsh, 6899 Crest Avenue, Riverside CA 92503.
National Testing Day is November 13. I am pleased to say that almost all our groups will take part this year. This event is in large part responsible for our healthy increase in membership. Encourage your potential friends to take the test on that day.
Have you ordered your copy of the 1999 American Mensa Membership Register? Call the Mensa Boutique at 1-800-MENSA4U.
One of the awards presented at the AG that I missed that deserves a mention was a Service Recognition Award to Ted Elzinga. Ted is a member of Inland Empire Mensa, where he still serves as Ombudsman and Publisher. He was RVC back when he and I were young and edited or published several Mensa publications. He earned that award. (Sorry I missed it, Ted.)
By the time you read this I will have been to the AMC meeting in Arlington, Texas. Yes, that is where our National Office is. I will see it for the first time and will get to meet the members of the staff that I have not yet met. I am looking forward to that.
What I am not looking forward to so much is the AMC meeting where we will vote on a dues increase. It is about eight years since we had an increase, but that in itself is not a valid reason for an increase. Unless I can be convinced that a raise is essential for the well-being of Mensa, I will vote against the motion. I will let you know next month how it went.
