Because of early deadlines of some newsletters, I am writing this before the AMC meeting where we will vote on the motions from the AMC Structure Review Committee. I will let you know the results next month. At this meeting we are also looking at how to ensure that Local Groups are adequately funded.
The National Testing Day was a great success. We do not yet have all the results but we do know that eleven hundred people were tested and that about eighty percent qualified. If your group took part, look forward to an influx of new members in the next few months. We expect this to be an annual event. Let us make sure that your group takes part next year.
I guess the big news from our region this month comes from Greater Los Angeles Mensa. Lament, the oldest Local Group Newsletter changes its name this month. By a narrow vote, the membership changed the name to L.A. Mentary.
The Phoenix RG will be held over Martin Luther King weekend - January 15-18. Registration is $60.00 until January 14, and you do not have to pay for a meal package. A room with a king size bed is $59.00 or one with two queen sized beds and a kitchenette is $69.00. What a deal!
Plans are well in hand for the Leadership Development Workshop in San Bernardino, February 26-28. We have a good line-up of presenters. I would encourage you to attend this weekend workshop. You will find it beneficial personally and of great help to your Local Group.
It is time to register for the Annual Gathering in Long Beach. It is only half a year away, and you know how quickly last year went. If you have been to AGs before, you do not need me to tell you what a wonderful experience they are. If you have not been before, do not miss this opportunity to attend an Annual Gathering right on your door step.
Let me wish you all a Happy New Year. If you make New Year resolutions, here are some suggestions. Resolve to give more of yourself to Mensa. Resolve to attend the Leadership Development Workshop, at least one Regional Gathering and the Annual Gathering. Resolve to attend at least one activity of your Local Group each month. Resolve to host at least one activity this year. Resolve to seek an office or appointed position on your Local Group board. If every member kept just one of these resolutions, what a great year we would have in Region 9.
