The State of GPM

By Mel Anderson, LocSec

After one month and 11 days at the helm of the good ship GPM I am not disappointed. That does not mean all has gone as I envisioned so far, but some non-anticipated good things occurred.

The MensaPhone is now not only for potential Mensans and crank callers. If you are ever separated from your MAAM and want to know if an event is available, just look in the white pages between Men’s Wearhouse and Mental Health Associates and there is the number you can call. Option 1 is for a one week window of events.

Kebba Buckley is now a member of the National Membership Committee. She can be contacted by calling (480)481-3434. This participation by Keb is yet another in a long list of her contributions to Mensa. We thank you.

SIG Flash: Bill MacIntosh, our PTAmeister, took a splish-splash drink bath thanks to a faulty table and heavy elbow of Michael Hall last month. Bill and Michael are ongoing contributors to our group’s success.

Other good stuff: Mike Johnson is carrying out the Email broadcast brigade (EBB) duties well and Laura Oliveira is doing financial lots of work (FLOW). Ouch! And how can we thank Stevie enough for her double-duty Editor and RG Chair efforts (maybe start by going to FSM and volunteering?).

Finally, a recruitment pitch for a change. The enviable position of SIG czar, who will be responsible for coordinating the activities, promoting new SIGs, getting SIG news published in the MAAM and recording upcoming events on the MensaPhone, is still open. If interested in such raw power, let me know.

I hope I see you at an event this month!
