The Newsletter Awards nominations have been announced. Six Local Group newsletters in Region 9 received nominations for a total of fourteen nominations. The most nominations went to Lament, newsletter of Greater Los Angeles Mensa, Mary Kimball is the Editor. Lament was nominated for The Owl (large group), for the best newsletter in the country. They also were nominated in the Service category for Forum, Reporting and Overall Service, in the Presentation category for Layout and for Photography and in Individual Achievement for Artwork by Jack Shaughnessy.
The Oracle, newsletter of Orange County Mensa, Denise Grushon - Editor, received two Service nominations; for Calendar and Membership Roster. San Diego Mensan, edited by Fred Longworth, was nominated under Individual Achievements for an Essay by Bob Tutelman. Much Ado About Mensa, the newsletter of Greater Phoenix Mensa - Stephenie Crowley - Editor, was nominated under Service for Reporting and for an Individual Achievement award for Humor by David Fidelman. ie, from Inland Empire, edited by Lynda Kay and Don Beatty, was nominated for an Individual Achievement for their Editors Column. Last but not least, M-Bassador, newsletter of Borderline Mensa - Editor Bob Cox (hey, thats me) was nominated for an Individual Achievement for the LocSecs Column by Johnathon Holman.
The 1999 Annual Gathering will be in Long Beach. They have a full committee in place except for the Volunteer Coordinator. If you would be willing to accept this position, contact Tom Herbertson, the Chairman, by e-mail at herbertsont@home.com They are also looking for people who will be at this years AG to help in Hospitality.
