Attendees: Carol Young, Bruce Stiles, Bill Rouse, Kent Van Cleave, Stephenie Crowley
Meeting started at 1:10
LocSec Report:
Carol received e-mail from a man who is moving from New Mexico, a social nudist; in touch with El Dorado Hot Springs at Tonopah. He would love to have Mensans come free of charge, and is creating a clothing optional club in NM. Carol will email the file to Stephenie to put in MAAM.
Richard Lederer made offer at the end of the RG that he will sell his books direct to any Mensans with profits going to the local group. We could give to MERF, start our own scholarship, or begin a fund for Mensans who cant afford dues and would pay back in social services. He sends the books to the local chapter and we keep the profits. We could offer the same to any Mensan author.
Mel Anderson has agreed to be election chair; has been given the names of people interested.
MindGames: We have our first registrant. Already have a committee. One of the complaints of last years MG was isolation from restaurants, etc.; this year will be in the heart of the Biltmore Area.
Forum Location: Carol asked for support for the new location. We hope for a good turnout, so can offer advertising in MAAM in exchange for six months. Carol would still like to explore the possibility of free admission for Mensans, $3 for non-Mensans. Stephenie suggested sending PR releases to radio stations about the Forum each month.
Treasurer: We still have money. We dont have the stapler yet; Stephenie asked that everybody look for one if they have a chance. We are looking at having a live Internet feed at the Hospitality Suite for the RG
Newsletter: Stephenie asked that a backup be established for Editor: must have email; know PageMaker. Carol and others will actively look. Carol submitted Oct, Nov, Dec for judging. Starting this month, the deadlines will always be on the 13th and FSM will always be on the 23rd.
RG: Leigh Butler will be RG chair. Stephenie will create publicity form for her. Bill Rouse will be Hotel Liaison. Carol will be treasurer. Alan Gore will be Registrar. Pete Constintino will test for Mensa and if he qualifies, will be Hospitality Chair. Carol recommended that the Membership Fund fund his dues in exchange for Hospitality Chair.
Bruce suggested Don Johannson, Director of the Center for Human Origins, as a speaker. Stephenie suggested contacting the Las Vegas RG about a retired stripper speaker they had. Bill reminded Leigh to comp herself and the Hospitality Chair both registration and rooms. It was recommended that, to encourage volunteers, we offer to comp 50% of the RG fee (not rooms). Carol said one RG she ran had a drawing for all early registrants to win their hotel room.
Old business: Kent reminded us we need an annual business meeting. Carol and Bruce recommended doing so at the April Forum. Carol will put it in the April calendar.
New Business:
Bill Rouse moved for adjournment. Bruce seconded. Passed unanimously. Adjournment at 1:50.
