(CANDIDATES WANTED. Read Mel's Call for Candidates for GPM)

By Stephenie Crowley

Just like the joke says, if you’re not the lead dog, you see the same old … well, the same old faces.

And I do see the same old faces.

That’s not an indictment. Please understand how grateful I am for people like Carol, Bill, Darryl, Bruce, Mel, Mike, Jason, Cal, Kent, Leigh, and the rest. We wouldn’t even have a GPM if not for those people who, month after month, go to meetings, chair committees, write articles, run computers, host gatherings, and do all the other things that make GPM run.

But I can name these folks in one short paragraph. And we’ve got somewhere over 600 Mensans in GPM.

Where the devil are the rest of you?

Elections are here again, and I have a feeling that the same old faces are going to be voted back in office with the usual thundering affirmation of 10 or 11 votes … total … from the electorate of over 600. That’s been the record for the last two years. (Prove me wrong this year!)

And the only reason it’s the same old faces is that nobody else will step forward, and the people in office remain dedicated enough to once again take the responsibility of keeping GPM running.

They all have full-time jobs, but they spare the two hours per month to go to the ExCom, or make a couple of phone calls, or check databases, or whatever. It averages out to maybe 2 minutes a day.

Not a lot of time. You probably spend more than that sitting at traffic lights.

So why aren’t you running? Or at least voting?

What would happen if we gave an election and nobody came?
