From the Editor

By Stephenie Crowley

Read Carol Young’s column. She has a bunch of interesting changes to GPM that are coming up, and as active members (as all of you certainly are), you need to know about them.

Starting next month, we’re going to have a "Literature" page. This is dedicated to those of you who want to sally into the uncharted waters of short prose. The first article is already at hand (ably written by your Former Editor); he certainly understands the exegencies of space and has submitted a neat little short piece that may bring a smile of recognition to your teenage faces. As Carol emphasizes elsewhere, if you keep things to about 750 words or so, you’ve got a really good chance of seeing stuff in print. Just keep it reasonably readable and non-scatalogical (remember, we’ve got kids reading this in some households).

Next month we’re also going to start serializing Mike Johnson’s presentation from the RG on numbers, Moebius strips, and other impossibilities. I was very impressed with the pre-presentation piece I read, and I think you’ll enjoy it. We may also run, on a monthly basis, the MensaScope (as started in t his month’s issue). Let me know if you think we need such highbrow entertainment.

Sorry I missed so many of you at the RG ... I (once again) was home, quietly enjoying the latest batch of communicable diseases brought into the Valley. It sounds, though, as if the RG was a really good one -- the feedback I’ve gotten from outside the Valley has been very positive.

So kudos to all involved: Bill Rouse, Carol Young, Mel Anderson ... Bill names them, and many more. This is volunteered time done for your pleasure and enjoyment. How about more of you getting involved?

Speaking of which: I’ve received nothing on the suggestions I made last month about volunteering. Either you didn’t read it, or you haven’t gotten off the couch yet. Hey! Let’s go!
