The Other Bill’s Not So Strenuous Hiking Group

by Bill Taylor

Once again my December hike did not attract too many of you. There were four of us who enjoyed a beautiful little hike into Usery Mountain Park.

For my February hike, I’m going to Lost Dutchman State Park, just north of Apache Junction. There are several trails with nice views of the Superstitions. The Treasure Loop Trail looks like a winner, with maybe a side trip onto the Prospector’s View Trail, just to make the hike more interesting. The Treasure Loop Trail has a total ascent of 460 feet, with a total distance of 2.42 miles. The Prospector’s View Trail does not add any additional elevation, just distance. Bring picnic goodies to share for lunch after the hike. There is a small entrance fee to enter the park. The park entrance is on Highway 88, five miles north of its intersection with The Apache Trail in downtown Apache Junction. Either meet at the Treasure Loop Trailhead at 9 a.m., or in front of the Border’s Books across from Fiesta Mall, on the east side of Alma School Road, just north of the Superstition Freeway, at 8 a.m., on Saturday, February 8.
