By The Asilomar Committee
Sorry to bother you about this so soon, but there are a few things you need to know now so you can do proper planning for Asilomar XXXIII. First of all, it comes early this year -- 30-31 August and 1 September. Second, we don't have as many rooms, especially historic (aka "rustic") ones, as usual, so we are opening registration early (1 March, to be exact) and expect to sell out before 1 August. Third (and, according to Brewmeister George Peabody, most important), one of the competitions (and tastings) this year is for homebrewed beer, and you homebrewers need six months lead time to do it right.
Now that we have your attention, you might like to know that we have taken the very nature of Asilomar -- "Heaven on Earth" -- and made it the theme. The costume theme for the Grand Ball/Casino is (of course) "Heavenly Bodies"; you have six months to imaginate. We'll have all the most popular events back again (including a revamped and much more lucrative Slave Auction and special seminars for First-Timers), and we'll also have a few surprises for you jaded Many-Timers.
160 people preregistered at Asilomar XXXII for Asilomar XXXIII, and we only have rooms for about 200 more. If you weren't one of the preregistrants, watch this space next month for the Official Asilomar Registration Form; we'd hate for you to miss out on the only 1997 appearance of "Heaven on Earth". Oh, and if you have no idea what this is all about, ask someone who has been there or call (or fax) Publicity Chair David Whitney at (415) 345-5894; send email to dwhitney@sfsu.edu. Use the same contact point for program and event ideas, offers to volunteer, and whatever else might make Asilomar XXXIII better for YOU!
